So I get home late after 12+ hours of work. As I turn on the TV and lay on the couch, the moon is so bright and the sky so clear I can see it through my blinds. Here's a pic!
I added a new project to the site called Black & White. As the oh-so-creative name suggests, these are black and white photos. Simple as that. The first three photos in this project are of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at University of Notre Dame. I visited the school for a science meeting on neglected infectious diseases. I got to present my science research - which I'm happy to say was very well received. It was a quick and busy trip as we left Friday morning and got back to St. Louis Saturday evening. However, we were able to stop by this cathedral on the way out.
Dear friends and strangers, Today, my website is online! I have never done any sort of blogging before, so this is exciting. This is my attempt to improve my photography skills and engage with the people and culture of St. Louis on a wider level. My intent is to have multiple ongoing photo projects that will challenge me in some way, and I hope to share these as I go. Feel free to follow along as I share my work! My first project is entitled "Dogs of St. Louis" or simply DOSTL. Above are the first 4 dogs I have photographed. I am collecting and sharing photos of dogs around the St. Louis area. I initially planned to start with a project called "100 Strangers," which I've seen on flickr and elsewhere. I have yet to build the confidence to approach strangers about taking their photo. I feel less nervous approaching dog owners and asking if I can photograph their dogs. They're used to random people stopping them in the street. Hopefully once this project gets going, I can re-start the 100 Strangers project.
After much wavering back and forth, I have decided to upload recent photos as blog posts. This makes it easier for me to share my updates on social media - so friends only see posts in their news feed when new content is uploaded here. Blog posts also allow for easy commenting and sharing, and allow me to edit on the go through the mobile app. If you prefer, you can also simply visit the "GALLERY" tab, where photos will be organized according to their projects. Either way, I hope you have as much fun looking through these photos as I have taking them! Please feel free to like, share, and comment! Thanks, J.P. |
